I saw the orthopedic doctor today and here are the results.
The good news is nothing is broken or torn. For now there is not reason to suspect to have an MRI and surgery is not a thought at this point. He checked all the mechanics of my foot and ankle and all checked out ok. Anohter good report is inserts are not needed now either. He did suggest to get orthotic inserts over the counter as most insurances do not cover the prescription ones.
On to the bad news. The 10 Miler is definatly out of the question. I think that was the hardest news to hear. I have been training my ass off for months and now I cannot do much of anything. He suspects there is a strain of the planner fasicas and it will take some time heal. In the mean time I will consider getting back on the bike and maybe add in swimming. Once the gym at Sweet Briar opens up I will continue on with my weight lifting. I am suppose to keep as much weight off of my right foot as possible and gradually put more and more pressure on it. He gave me an air heel cast to use that makes a world of difference. I go back in two weeks for a checkup so I will keep you posted.
I doubt I will be doing a whole lot of blogging in the near future. Thank you all for your well wishes and support you have provided me over the last few months. Since I doubt I will be around blogger for a bit, if you want to get in touch with me you and email me at jyoung@sbc.edu or I am on AOL Instant Messanger jmyoung520.
Good luck to all those training and to those with upcoming races.
