Last Saturday, I went to the local running store in Charlottesville, VA. I went in to see how they would fit me knowing what we know now about the injury. They had me run around the store to get a better idea of my mechanics. That is the first running I have done since the injury. To say it hurt was an understatment. However, the next day (Sunday) there was no pain what so ever. How weird. Anywho, they recommended me going back to Brooks Adrenaline GTS 8. They also added an insert into my right foot that offers more padding and arch support. I went ahead and bought them and can not wait to try them out.
I had another appointment with the Orthopedic doctor this week. Originally, he wanted to do an MRI but I asked to hold off because there has been a lot of progress over the last week. Since that run in the store things have been getting progressively better. During the appointment I was able to squat, hop, jump, and walk with no pain (just some discomfort). He did give me some exercises to do that would be the same as me going to physical therapy. I go back to him in a month to see how things are.
Today, I went to see our new Athletic Trainer and she recommended Kinesio Tape (think Kerri Walsh from the Olympics). Right now I have hot pink (pink is the new black, right?) tape going across my foot. We will see how it goes. At this point I am willing to try anything. I have done some research and the effects are very positive.
Next week I promise I will get back to the gym, pool/biking, and resume a stretching regime to be ready for the day I get the green light to run again. I think I have spend enough time being down about this injury. Time to get moving again.
