I have found that getting back into the swing of things has been more difficult than I thought. This week, I was able to get in three runs (if that is what you want to call them) in three straight days.
Run 1 - 39 minutes on an elliptical machine on the interval program with the resistance cranked up. The purpose of this "run" was to work on my cardio. My max heart rate was 185 with an average around 174. I really enjoyed this one. I felt the effects for several hours. I missed that feeling.
Run 2 - 30 minutes on elliptical machine on the performance program with varying resistance. I decided to do back to back days to see how my legs and body would respond. I was only able to keep my heart rate in the mid 160's and could defiantly tell my body was still tired from the previous day. Just for giggles, I went ahead and added a light leg workout on several Cybex machines after the elliptical.
Run 3 - This was an actual run. I made it through the dairy loop with no real issues. My cardio was really good and never got winded on the hills. The only real issue was my legs. They got tired very quick. I am not sure it my legs are not used to the pounding or if it was the previous two days on the elliptical took its toll on my legs. Funny thing with this run is I was able to get my speed to around 10min/mile several times and it felt pretty easy. Is it possible for the cardio to come back that quickly?
Overall, I am happy with the results of this week. I would like to be able to return to my normal Monday, Wednesday, and Friday morning routine this week (thank you to the end of Day Light Savings). The next step is to get back to my stretching routine to keep things loose and get back to watching what I eat to get my weight back down.
